My step mom is the bread winner of the household, and filed claiming everyone except one of my step sisters and possibly my brother. She also filed as the head of household. My father started his own business a while ago but didn’t have any income that year, so she didn’t include him on their taxes and didn’t file jointly. Now, because of this, my school won’t process any financial aid, including a grant and a scholarship that I won that would pay 100% of my tuition. They see an error in the way she filed, my legal guardian is alive and well, which means that they should have filed jointly. My school won’t allow me to:
accept any awards until they’ve fixed it.
or apply for ANY loans what so ever.
My financial aid file won’t be complete until my parents refile.
Here’s the actual problem: they won’t fix it. They will owe too much money, and they don’t want to back track. I won’t be able to continue going to school unless they refile, because I can’t afford it.
I have been trying to find ways to claim independent, but the options are very slim! I’m 22, I don’t make enough to support myself just yet, so claiming me is totally in their rights. They don’t want to fix the error, so I’m on my own. If I could receive loans I’d be fine, but I cannot.
Either way, I would just like to know what advice others have for someone in my situation. I’m sure its not uncommon, but since it is very serious I would love any advice others have to give me.
Right now I work two jobs, but I would prefer to work one GOOD one! That way I could save up to move out. But with no degree yet, most places that pay well don’t want ya.
Okay thanks!
Well, duh.
Your mom filed illegally as HOH. when you are married and living with your spouse, you CANNOT file HOH. I’m willing to bet she also claimed EIC and now realized she’ll owe all of that back.
Since her filing status was illegal, it’s only a matter of time before the IRS catches this *anyway* and she’ll STILL owe the money back when the IRS changes the tax return to MFS. Not only that, but she’ll be barred from claiming EIC for 10 years due to the obvious fraud.
If you are telling the truth that dad had no income, filing jointly will still let them get EIC.
So sit down and draft the MFJ return for them. Give it to them.
If they still refuse, be realistic that you will have to postpone further education for at least 2 years.
I am thinking of joining the Navy on a health sciences (Dentistry) scholarship. How quickly does one get promoted to O-4 (Major), after one starts practicing? I.E. How many years does it take?
O4 is LCDR( Lieutenant Commander) NOT Major.
normal progression is ten years give or take. depending on what you commission at.. if you commission as an O3, you can see O4 in about 5 years. 7 or 8 if you come in as an O2.
There are thousands of Military Scholarships out there so…..
Will that be extra cash for me or will it just take off what the military actually has to pay?
And i understand the military only pays a certain amount per year but being i’ll have a full time job with them I won’t be taking 15 hour semesters so the cost shouldn’t exceed that limit.
Ok so the scholarship is basically cash in my pocket?
You can get info about such college scholarships and grants online here – colleges.mywebcommunity.org
Timothy Good has conducted worldwide research on the UFO phenomenon including interviewing key witnesses and discussing the subject with astronauts, military and intelligence specialists, pilots, politicians and scientists. He has lectured at universities, schools, and at many organizations and has even been invited for discussions at the Pentagon in 1998, and at the headquarters of the French Air Force in 2002. He has acted as consultant for several U.S. Congressional investigations.
Born in London, Timothy Good gained a scholarship as a violinist to the Royal Academy of Music, where he won prizes for solo, chamber and orchestral playing. He played for fourteen years with the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also freelanced as a session player for television dramas, commercials, feature films, and recordings with pop musicians. Among those he has recorded for are Phil Collins, George Harrison, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart, and U2.
Good put forth the contention that the military has been involved in a secretive war with UFOs, and has been attempting to shoot them down for decades. He cited around-the-world plane wrecks, both military and civilian, that took place in 1947, and 1,700 unexplained accidents involving interceptor aircraft between 1952 and 1956. He believes the conflict continues to this day.
Good also spoke about the July 1952 Washington, DC UFO overflights. There were a number of sightings over that summer which included a large cigar-shaped craft, and a hovering object observed by around 500 witnesses that came down so low in the sky that it was said to obscure downtown buildings. He also reported that according to Major Donald Keyhoe, giant craft were observed orbiting Earth at around 79,000 ft. during this timeframe.

http://chuckdevore.com – Chuck DeVore represents 500,000 constituents in the California State Assembly. Chuck DeVore is a common sense conservative candidate for United States Senate in 2010 against Barbara Boxer. He is the Vice Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Revenue and Taxation and serves on the Veterans Affairs Committee, and the Joint Legislative Audit Committee. Chuck was elected in 2004 and reelected in 2006 and in 2008. Chuck has been honored as the Legislator of the Year by seven groups: including the California Veterans of Foreign Wars, the California chapter of the American Legion and others.
Chuck worked in the aerospace industry for 13 years and was vice president of research before leaving work to begin serving as an elected official.
Chuck served as a Reagan White House appointee in the Pentagon from 1986 to 1988. As Special Assistant for Foreign Affairs his duties included working with Congress to advance the Presidents foreign and military policy.
In 1983, Chuck enlisted in the United States Army Reserve. He earned an ROTC scholarship that allowed him to attend Claremont McKenna College where he graduated with honors with a degree in Strategic Studies in 1985. He also studied overseas at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. After more than 24 years of service, Chuck is now a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army retired Reserve.
Since age 19, Chuck has been a volunteer for the Republican Party, serving in the leadership of several groups. He was elected to the Orange County Republican Party Central Committee in 1992 and was reelected four times.
Chuck is also the author of the internationally acclaimed novel, China Attacks. Written in 1999 and translated into Chinese in 2000, the book, banned in China, sells well in Taiwan where Chuck met with Taiwanese government and military leaders in 2001 and again in 2005.
2008, he authored a scholarly piece entitled, Relative Risk: Global Warming and Imported Fossil Fuels vs. Nuclear Power, for the UC Berkeley School of Laws inaugural edition of Ecology Law Currents. In 2004, The Claremont Institute named Chuck a Lincoln Fellow.
Chuck and his wife Diane were married in 1988. They have two daughters. Diane is a credentialed teacher and a member of the Tustin Federation of Republican Women.

There is a web site that i can go to where i could get a scholarship just because he was in the military. but i can’t find it so please anyone help me to find this site
my husband and i were just talking about this before he shipped out i cant remember if he said they alreay passed a bill for it or if they are still in the process of doing it but basically what it boils down to is if your dad did not use all the money already set aside for him for college and there was some still left then the children of those that served in the milatary could then use what was left but that it would only go back so many years so if your dad served like 20 year ago i dont think you would fall under that umbrella but it couldnt hurt to ask
If so, where can I get more information?
I have no family and absolutely no money, and I want to get into college somehow.
well you can only have an F22 raptor,M-4a1 carbine, bulletproof kevlar vest and a military suit…but not pretty sure about the scholarships and loans since not all military and army schools offer scholarships
