This should help you understand my situation. I will be attending the University of Michigan starting in the winter 2007 semester and I do not have any money left over after attending a community college for two years while living at home. After the community college, I will have two unsubsidized loans on my tab which means they will have crazy interest building up if I do not pay them off soon. They total about $5,000 right now. I am thinking about obtaining one of those loans you see on television ($40,000) to pay for the two unsubsidized loans along with tuition and room and board (on campus)for U of M. I was also thinking of taking out a big loan because my parents make too much money to get any kind of grant money and the unsubsidized loans just aren’t enough. Also, even if I tried to win one of those scholarships from fastweb.com, it would not be enough to cover around $23,000 per year (two years for me) worth of expenses for U of M.
Note: I am responsible! Thanks!

First of all, I would be leery of any substandard loan that you see advertized on TV. Chances are, the interest is higher than what you are paying on your current unsub loans. Get all your student loans through your schools fin aid office. Most of which are sponsored by the Dept of Education. They are not in the business of making money, but helping you get quality loans for your education.

If the school isn’t offering you enough in loans grants and scholarships to cover the cost of your tuition, room and board, consider going to a less expensive school along with getting a part time job.

Good rule of thumb when borrowing is not to take more than what you would expect to earn your first year out of school. Example:
A Dr. with a total debt of $100,000 to be a okay because he would expect to earn that upon graduating. A future teacher borrowing that much would not be good unless they could expect to earn that right out of college. Highly unlikely. (Also, be aware a $40,000 student loan would earn a payment of about $425.00 a month)

You asked about experiences…
My friend borrowed $40,000 for her first year of Pharmacy school. She, like you, had 2 years under her belt and was absolutely thrilled to get accepted. But as it was, life happened and a couple of pregnancies and 1 miscarriage later she flunked out. Now she’s got nothing except a bad transcript and a $40,000 loan. Which she can’t affort to pay back. Oh, and a baby too.
The school was very forgiving and said she could get back in the program at any time, but of course she would have to fork over another $40,000 to take and pay for all those courses again. She would then have to borrow another 40K for her second year of school as well. See the cycle?
Good Luck!

At 30K/year of tuition, I am thinking about joining the military for a scholarship. But "realistically", how much can a dentist make the first four years? Is private practice even feasible right out of D school? Is the military scholarship worth it, given that they pay for all tuition and fees and give you a monthly stipend of about $1900/month while in school in exchange for 4 years of service after graduation?

Dentists make over 100,000 out of college. Best thing is not start your own practice. Apply for a dentist position at a group practice or chain dental office.

This event may have awakened many Americans to see the truth of our human and civil rights being encroached upon by military style police. This film shows how one Man, Oscar Grant of Oakland California may have united many people together as Humans. A single organism at War with It’s Self is Doomed.

First all I would like to express my gratitude for the opportunity you offer to any one to be granted. As you can see from my CV I earned a BSc degree in networking and data communication. During the three years of study at the university, I had received rigorous theoretical and practical training in Networking and data communication .I worked for Ethiopian In statute of Agricultural Research under Forestry research Center for around 2 years as network technician. Currently I have been worked as Junior IT expert at Engineering Capacity Building Program (ecbp). My responsibilities are much more extended that what I was serving at the forestry Research Center.

I would like to be granted the NFP because by winning this precious scholarship I can take part in my MSc program of Geo-Information Science at Wageningen University, the Netherlands .The reason for choosing this specific Master program is comes from various reasons. First this MSc program is extremely suitable with my interest and I believe that continue my studies in order to gain knowledge and experience by academic research. I believe a master degree in GIS would offer me the possibility of receiving the complete picture of all aspect of the field. In addition to this in men dominating society, I have also strong desire to be a role model women researcher in the field of GIS .Secondly reason, I will get a chance to through NFP scholarship to interact with students from diverse professional, social and cultural backgrounds drawn from all over the world. In addition having a chance to study in the Netherlands means I will have opportunity to approach and experience one of the best educational system in the world.

The current status in the development of GIS in our country is far from what the world is reached so I believe obtaining a master’s degree will provide the necessary background to anticipate and react to ever changing GIS development.

Just to give you a gist of my personal traits, I am motivated and self driven individual who functions effectively under pressure. I am very ambitious and my ambition is matched by strong collaborative sprit. I enjoy helping others as well as learning from others when ever the opportunity is afforded. I can quickly adapt to the changing circumstances of the work environment, and also to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultures and back grounds. I am looking forward to the opportunity that the grant will offer me with more opportunities to study with people of with more opportunity to study people of different social and cultural back grounds

I have one suggestion, and that is refrain from using the word "I" as often as you have.Use your
Imagination to rewrite some of your sentences in a way that the word "I",is not the first word of sentence. There are errors in syntax that should be corrected. The last sentence is one example.
You have used people and opportunity twice

Preface: I have been accepted to the United States Military Academy and was under there assumption it was all paid for. I received more booklets and packets telling me there is a $2900 deposit required for the class of 2012 and other expenses for uniforms, books, etc.
I am looking for a scholarship that is NOT "for tuition, room or board only", but must be able to be "used for textbooks, uniforms, and other expenses".

So my question: Can anyone point me in the direction of a site/ source with some scholarships that are able to be "used for textbooks, uniforms, and other expenses".

Thank you.
-R.s

First, contact West Point and speak with someone in their financial aid office. They may well have something available to you via the school.

Second, also contact your high school guidance counsellor. They should be able to give you lists of scholarships to which you can apply.

Also look at getting a job in this upcoming summer. You may be able to earn part of that cash.

Also, if you or your parents are currently part of any groups or clubs – a church, a social organisation, or if you’re members of any ethnicity, check with those groups to see what they offer.

A final option is to take out a loan. Again, the financial aid office at West Point should be able to help hook you up.

And congratulations. Getting into one of these places is a huge deal. And West Point is a beautiful place. Nicely done!

When America’s toughest soldiers — the Army Green Berets and Delta Force, and the Navy Seals – need a helping hand, they know they can rely on Air Force Special Operations.

Climb aboard a US Air Force AC-130 Spectre gunship as it delivers an impressive air-to-ground punch. Other Special Operations aircraft, like the MH-53 Pave Low and the MH-60 Pave Hawk, can insert commando teams deep into enemy territory even on the darkest of nights. Ride with these daring pilots on their extremely perilous missions.
