Yes, I know there are tons of scholarships and grants that are out there for low income families and I would like to apply for one because my family is a low income generating famly, I have kids, and I have an Associate’s and I working on my Bachelor’s. However, I get assistance through the financial aid the government provides, plus student loans and grants, yet I would like to see about getting a grant or scholarship by applying my skills to get approved or win a grant or scholarship so I can use the money on school and or building a home based business and was wanting to know which web site and/or grants are the best for me and would be the most appropriate given my situation. I have the smarts to give to applying and presenting to the grant or scholarship, however I was wanting to know the ones that were worth applying to or which site to go to that I would have more of a chance of getting? If I could get some help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much……….

You can get info about such college scholarships and grants online here – universities.atwebpages.com

with this link below, I don’t understand why it says that in order to receive tuition assistance in IL, someone must be on active duty status for at least a year? Does that include basic training and tech school?? View link below…

The way the GI BILL worked when I first entered the military is this: The soldier contributed $100.00 a month for the first year, after that the SM contribution is done. When the SM decided to draw on his/her GI BILL entitlement, the ARMY paid the rest. If I remember correctly, my complete entitlement was $15,000. Yes, I have been in for awhile! With the RESERVES/GUARD, you can get tuition assistance through your unit. It has to be approved by the SM’s chain of command. Usually not a problem, as long the SM is in good standing with the unit…attending Battle Assemblies, duty, etc. This is on top of the GI BILL benefit received by the SM. Hope this helps you out!!!

I am not sure if I am eligible for any military grants or scholorships, and I don’t even know who to ask. I am attending Northwestern college, I currently have a 4.0 GPA. My father was retired Navy, although he also served in the Army, Marines and Coast Guard. He never used any of his GI Bill money, he passed away when I was 11, and I’m 36 now. He did two tours in Vietnam. I just don’t want to miss an opportunity for scholorship or grant money, and if someone knows more about this, or to point me in some sort of direction that would be great.
There are some good answers and some not so good answers. Thanks to the ones who responded intelligently. As for lilllbit, no you do not deserve a free ride for your grandpa being in WWII, and your ignorant response makes me not want to ask a question, I can’t believe you are a top contributor, why don’t you see how many websites are out there for military scholoraships and grants, there are thousands, I just didn’t know where to begin. When you do a little research and educate yourself, then get back to me, otherwise I don’t have the time of day for responses like yours, If I have a chance in this economy to save a couple of thousand dollars from a 40,000 dollar bill, then I am going to use my noggin and find it.
Thank you to who had suggested academic scholarships, I am going to pursue that also, I’m also pursing minority scholarships, for every minority that I am. I am just trying to look at all avenue’s to save myself some money.

I believe some post 9/11 GI Bill benefits can be transferred to family members, but my guess is that your father wasn’t covered then.

I used my GI Bill when I retired. But that was about 25 years ago, and I’m sorry, but I can’t remember the process.

I’d suggest you go to your college financial aids office and ask them. I have little doubt that they’ll be aware of any way to extract money from the government. Your next step would be a VA office… they may have one on campus… if not, call on one off campus… they’re in the phone book. Contact the Federal office for GI Bill information, and the State office for any state grants.

My guess is that you’re going to come up empty on your father’s service. I don’t think the post 9/11 version of the GI Bill will apply to him, and i seem to recall that when I retired in 1985, there was a time limit on the use of the educational benefits.

Seems to me, with a 4.0, you should be able to get an academic scholarship. Or perhaps you could go to some organization that supports people studying in your major, and see if they have any grants.

The most dangerous of military missions is the amphibious assault. Join the modern Marine forces and see the surprising capabilities of their new equipment. Watch the advanced vehicles that carry them to shore, the most hi-tech development being hovercraft, which are equally effective over land and water!

This is a documentary which shows amphibious assault forces which storm the beaches with the United States Marines in landing craft.

AUGUSTA, Ga.—Some Augusta kids and their parents spent the evening with a young woman — someone who succeeded despite odds and landed on a page in history.

ASA Pilot Stephanie Grant visited the Macedonia Baptist Church to speak to a group of youngsters about reaching for the skies.

So many people believe that our inner city youth is doomed – but if any of them listened to first officer Stephanie Grant’s words that won’t be the case. She is an example to follow.

She’s small in stature but she’s made already made a huge accomplishment in history. That’s why Stephanie Grant – shares her story.
Her message – dream big – and big things can happen.

“If you have a dream and you go after it, you actually have something to shoot for,” says Grant.

Back in February she made history when she along with three other African American women piloted an ASA flight from Atlanta to Nashville. They were the nation’s first all black all female flight crew. Atlantic Southeast Airlines has three black female pilots. Only one has made captain so far Stephanie Grant – could be next.
A member of the Macedonia Baptist Church invited Grant to speak to the room full of impressionable minds. Grant lived in Augusta for a year – for military training but her roots are deep here. It was during that year her relationship with her father strengthened. He along with so many other family members in Augusta shine with pride.

Grant along with another African American pilot spoke of their experiences and easily kept the crowd’s attention their words of encouragement not only inspired the children but some parents as well.

For this young woman being part of history came by chance- but positively touching the lives of today’s youth is something that she does-intentional.

Grant is also is a former Army Officer who went through flight school on her own.

Scholarship SCAM?

Author: admin
February 21, 2010

I received a form from the United States Achivement Academy which says that my son has been nominated to be recognized in their yearbook because he is a honor roll student. They also say there are 4 cash grants for $10.000 each that he might win… Has someone received one of these scholarships? It seems like a scam, but I went to the Better Business Bureau and this company is a BBB member. What do you all think?

From my understanding, they companies make money by selling you the yearbook that you’re son will be in. There’s a lot of things like this. None of them are really bad, and there could be some good that comes out if it. But it’s like an old school phishing operation- they get all your info for their year book, then they sell that info to people who will then market especially to you (a lot of college stuff)- and they’ll try to sell you the book in the process…. but it’s a normal thing and probably this won’t be his last offer like this.
