  1. habsabard Says:

    Also, stalin wanted …
Also, stalin wanted as much soviet teritory in front of the three main cities (Moscow, Leningrad, and Stalingrad) that he needed the extra territory from the Nazi-Soviet Pact

  2. mike18at Says:

    Hitler was madly …
Hitler was madly afraid of a two front war, not the least because of his experiances in WW1. The german army wouldn’t have been able to fight of France, Poland AND UdSSR at once in 1939, or it would at least have been very difficult. Blitzkrieg succeeded because the Wehrmacht could first concentrate soly on Poland, then soly on the Western front. That’s why Hitler agreed to the pakt in the first place, he NEEDED russian neutrality. (and hoped it would be enough to prevent a war with the allies)

  3. boweowen Says:

    But if Stalin didnt …
But if Stalin didnt invade poland and baltic states then Germany whould have taken it and USSR whould bee in biger shit. Stalin was forced to hury and take his part of Poland in september 39 befour Hitler stole it, and Hitler whould not give something he faught for. Stalin didnt expect Germany whould be so fast in destroing Poland. however Soviets where to weak in cuality of their generals in 1941 all their military equipment couldnt do any differance. It tok years to get enough exp

  5. mike18at Says:

    That’s not how it …
That’s not how it worked. The attack was a gamble that succed, I’m sure you know of “Sichelschnitt”. The Wehrmacht didn’t simple invade Belgium and then overran France, it used Belgium to lure the French and British armies in. That aside, poland is much bigger than belgium, any suprise element would have been lost. (btw., suprise element was one of the major reasons of the early successes of Barbarossa, many troops and planes were captured or destroyed in the first days of the operation!

  6. boweowen Says:

    Do u know how …
Do u know how France got invaded in 1940? It was attacked trough Belgium, and Belgium was neutral befour Germany invaded. Germans just roled accros Belgium on their way for France. Whot whod stop them to do the same thing to attack USSR?

  7. RussianEagleBelg Says:

    If Russians staged …
If Russians staged the same experiments on Germans as Germans did, Russians would be just fair. But Russians did not even bother to inflict as much losses on Germans, as Germans did on Russians. Although this was easy to implement and nobody would object.
Imagine a situation when someone comes uninvited into your home, kills everyone but you and then asks you to leave the house. I presume you would like this guy right from the start. Would you give him a tip?

  8. mike18at Says:

    There’s a faulty …
There’s a faulty thinking either by Stalin or the maker of this documentation. If Stalin wanted a secure land wall to protect him from Germany, he would have NOT invaded the areas agreed to in the Molotov Ribbentrop pact. Before August 1939 there was simply NO way for germany to successfully invade the UdSSR, simply because the two “empires” didn’t share a land border. Only after 1939 both had a very large, unstable border.

  9. taywil64 Says:

    The Irish …
The Irish positively contributed to the British war effort. The top RAF ace was an Irishman. At one stage all the top British generals were Irishmen ie born in Ireland, including Monty, the British general who was commander of British forces on D-Day. But no surprise there! Kitchener and Lords Roberts were Irishmen, as was Wellington the Iron Duke! And the first VC was won by…an Irishman! I think I have made my point. I feel at home in Ireland!

  10. taywil64 Says:

    On the …
On the historiography of Europe, not least WWII, British academics are among the most respected and knowledable on the subject. Even the most popular histories on various topics of pre-WWII have been written by the British. They know their contribution is respected and they are not “self-loathing!”

  11. taywil64 Says:

    I am English but I …
I am English but I work and live in Ireland. And I disagree with the Blair government concluding peace with the IRA terrorists. But I note the absence of any intellectual content to your posting. You are the voice of ignorance that otherwise would have been silent.

  12. TheSanityInspector Says:

    Your Irish hatred …
Your Irish hatred of England blinds you to the facts.

  13. taywil64 Says:

    Professor E. is a …
Professor E. is a reknowned expert on the German-Russian war but IMHO I think he understates the anti-German sentiment within the USSR. For instance, the rape of German women and the destruction of USSR occupied Germany went on until 1947/8. Eastern Europe and especially the Baltic states suffered too (the latter repeatedly). Russia was ruthless all along. That needs to be emphasised.

  14. taywil64 Says:

    GB holding out for …
GB holding out for so long! Hiler did not want Britain. But Churchill did want to invade Norawy, aid Finland and atatck Ireland. The US would take over Iceland in due course and condemn, with Churchill, Germany for attacking neutral nations. The Allied nations ie US/UK had as few principles as Hitler and Stalin.

  15. petrwarry Says:

    i grew up on …
i grew up on russian war films – that was unreal propaganda mate :-)

  16. petrwarry Says:

    well,i think that …
well,i think that every country does it

  17. TheSanityInspector Says:

    “While the allies …
“While the allies looked on”…*snort!* If it hadn’t been for Great Britain holding out for so long, Russia would have been attacked much sooner. Modern British are too self-loathing to write their own history. They *were* heroes in those days.
