In a way they were …
In a way they were “assraped”. They attacked Russia with the misconception that the whole country would fall within weeks, then it ended with them being pushed all the way back into Berlin, and ultimately being defeated. Sure the Soviets may have lost 3 million more men than Germany in the process, but they did win the war.

Yeah the red army pushed everything they had for a victory but if they didnt Hitler may never be defeated. D-day would certainly have failed if all the troops in russia would have been brought to france.

The USSR treated German POWs very badly too. That fact does not come out in the commentary. Neither side signed the Geneva convention with regard to each other.
