I keep hearing people tell me I won’t be able to receive a Cal Grant for having a house in Irvine, CA. I suppose the area is fairly nice, but not THAT great. My family still really needs the money because my sister will be applying for college soon too. If I can’t get a Cal Grant do you know any other scholarships or grants that could give me just as much money?
Here’s the link to the eligibility requirements for a Cal Grant: http://www.calgrants.org/index.cfm?navId=12
I don’t see anything that lists if you live in Irvine you won’t be eligible. Is the house the primary residence, or is it rental property? If it’s rental property, it may be seen as an asset and maybe that’s why you’re getting that information. It doesn’t hurt to apply, especially if after looking at the eligibility factors you qualify. Good luck!

if you live in a HOUSE in Irvine you’re probably pretty well off. i live in irvine too, but in an apartment. there are certain income requirements for grants like the Cal Grant and you pretty much have to be dirt poor like me to get these kinds of grants. you also need to have a minimum GPA requirement.
